Powys Family History Society
The Powys Family History Society was formed in 1980. The part of Wales that the society covers is the pre-1974 counties of Breconshire, Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire, and at present has 800 members with family interests in this area.
Regular meetings, to which all are welcome, with interesting speakers take place in Brecon, Welshpool, Newtown and Llandewi Ystradenny. For those at home and abroad, the society journal “Cronicl” is produced in April, August and December, giving members an opportunity to publish their personal family history interests, be kept up to date with Society events and genealogical news items, and learn more about the area of their ancestors. Further details of these and research services, along with a listing of the Society’s own publications which include booklets and CDs covering local parish registers, census, and monumental inscription transcripts, will be found on the website.
Powys FHS is a registered charity (no 511875), is a member of Capel, the Welsh Chapels Heritage Society, the Federation of Family History Societies and the Association of Family History Societies of Wales.
Powys Family History Society contributed to the National Burial Index For England & Wales. These records are available as part of a Findmypast Plus and Pro subscription.
