Midland Ancestors
Established in 1963 as the Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry, Midland Ancestors, as we are now known, is one of the oldest family history societies in England. The area of interest that it covers is the pre-1974 counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
The Society meets in Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Kenilworth, Stoke-on-Trent, Stourbridge, Wolverhampton and London. All Groups and the Heraldry Group hold regular meetings.
Our Family History Centre in Birmingham contains over 9,000 items, our own publications are digitized and available via the Family History Centre PC's. Publications include Parish Register transcriptions (some have original images), Monumental Inscription transcriptions, a collection of data CD's, maps and more.
The Family History Centre has access to Findmypast via a UK library edition subscription. We are also an affiliate of Familysearch (IGI), so PCs at the Family History Centre have access to view Familysearch record images.
There is a link service to members outside the area. The quarterly journal ‘The Midland Ancestor’ enables members at home and further afield to enjoy general articles on family history, learn more about the area of their ancestors, and to be kept up to date with events and all the services that the society offers. We also have a Members Interests facility.
All can be found on the excellent and informative website, the Researching your Ancestors sections are especially useful as are the information contained in the local Groups own websites. The main website also contains details of the society’s research services and their large range of publications which can be bought in the online shop. The Society runs one day courses for beginners in April, and for more advanced researchers in October. Contact with the society can be made via the website or by emailing [email protected]
Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry is a registered charity (no 515916) and is a founder member of the Federation of Family History Societies.
